Prequels, Sequels & Remakes

...And reboots, do overs, whatever the kids are calling it these days.

David Ondaatje is set to direct the thriller The Lodger. This’ll be the third adaption of Marie Belloc Lowndes’ book since Hitchcock's 1927 film.

More on Star Trek XI: The Enterprise's first captain, Captain Pike, will be played by Bruce Greenwood. Spock's father will be played by Chariots of Fire's Ben Cross.

The sequel TV movie/maybe pilot to 80's show Knight Rider! Unfortunately David Hasselhoff is still only "in talks" about being cast, but we can always hope.

The Punisher: War Zone (its latest title) will have Dominic West as Jigsaw, and should wrap up filming mid-December.

The Wayans brothers are talking about a theatrical "contemporizing" of 60s comedy show The Munsters. Shawn Wayans says that they won't be starring in it, just writing and producing.

Taurua Entertainment is shopping around the idea of Knightriders 2… *sigh*

Must resist "Kyle and Drew..." joke

According to his myspace blog, Kevin Smith has cast the two leads in his new movie "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" Those stars being Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks. (Thanks, blinkfan)

The plot:

"Lifelong platonic friends Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Banks) look to solve their respective cashflow problems by making an adult film together. As the cameras roll, however, the duo begin to sense that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought."

Romero's Deadtime Stories

Filming has already started on the new George A. Romero and Jeff Monahan project, Deadtime Stories. It's a set of three horror short stories ("Dust", "On Sabbath Hill", and an unnamed story). Distribution is as yet undecided, with a second set of stories possible, depending on the success of the first.

I need a young writer and an old writer!

So last Tuesday (November 27th) the horror writers of the WGA got together to hold an exorcism as a form of protest.

What's next? Comedy writers staging a massive pie fight? Drama writers organizing a three hankie sit in?

Cloverfield Update

So now there's an official plot:

"Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives."

If the trailer is any indication, be sure to bring something for motion sickness:
