The Escaflowne movie is at best mediocre and doesn't compare favorably to the TV version. Compressing a twenty-six episode serial (and it was a true serial) into a ninety some minute movie. meant some serious character simplification. Folken got it worst. In the TV series, he was more misguided than evil and was rather a tragic figure. The movie converts him to a standard issue power-hungry maniac.
And they gave him an even worse mullet! Don't even get me started on Millerna...
But yeah, on all counts, couldn't agree more.
