If you haven't checked out Stephen King's official site for the Dark Tower series, you might wanna.

"The Tokyo International Anime Fair will launch a contest for the image of its mascot character next year. The fair will accept entries from May 1 to June 30, and the winner will receive 200,000 yen (about US$2,000)." (links in Japanese)

After the New Mexico State officials pulled the plug on their $245,000 legislative appropriation bill, the still developing Alien Apex Resort, an alien theme park that would've been based in Roswell, has stalled.

While focusing mostly on Barbie, Iranian Prosecutor General Ghorban Ali Dori Najafabadi said in an official letter, "The displays of personalities such as Barbie, Batman, Spiderman and Harry Potter ... as well as the irregular importation of unsanctioned computer games and movies are all warning bells to the officials in the cultural arena."

Update, Toxic Avenger: The Musical will open September 30, 2008 in New Brunswick, NJ. Official site. To recap: Just like in the movie, Melvin Ferd transforms into the Toxic Avenger, "writing[sic] wrongs, beating bullies and seducing his lady love Sarah the blind librarian." Music by Joe DiPietro, and lyrics by David Bryan.

Fujiko F. Fujio's robot cat Doraemon will get its first play based off the 1990 movie Doraemon: Nobita's Animal Planet. Starting in July, it'll travel to cities across Japan with current Doraemon voice actress Wasabi Mizuta reprising her role, and Makoto Sakamoto, Reiko Suho, and Tomohiro Waki as Nobita, Shizuka, and Jaian, respectively.

Disney, in partnership with Pixar, is starting a new line of robotic toys. They’ll premiere this summer at the Bay Area Maker Faire with Wall-E and Tinker Bell toys.
