Prequels, Sequels & Remakes

James Bond sequel Quantum of Solace has been pushed back from November 7 to November 14.

Juliet Snowden and Stiles White have been hired as the writers on the Poltergeist remake. They did Boogeyman. This is both depressing and insulting.

Don Mancini will be writing and directing the Child’s Play remake, "I think what we are mainly responding to, David [Kirschner] and I, is the will of the fans, which is really telling us that they want to see a scary Chucky movie again. They want to go back to the straightforward horror rather than the horror comedy." Will Brad Dourif be back? "Who would you get that’s better? If you could recast it, you would want the actor to sound kind of like it, but it would feel weird to just be completely different I think."

Irvine Welsh says he’s writing a prequel to the Trainspotting novel and is planning a sequel to the movie. Ewan McGregor will not be back since he is not a fan of the sequel.

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens have completed their deals and started writing on The Hobbit with del Toro. Shooting will start fall 2009 in New Zealand.

Jon Favreau says about Iron Man, “We're working on it now, which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010.”

Tyrese Gibson is off Fast and Furious 4, due to scheduling conflicts with Transformers 2. Speaking of Fast and Furious, Vin Diesel says he’ll be directing a 20 minute prequel to the franchise. It’ll star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sung Kang, and link the first and fourth movies together.

Mitch Klebanoff has written and will direct a Beverly Hills Ninja sequel, Tokyo Jones : The Legend of the Dancing Ninja. “Caucasian but raised by an Asian family after a mix-up at sea when he was a baby, Ikki grows up knowing that he's different from those around him, but also quite confident he is a ninja and not just any ninja, but the legendary Dancing Ninja. Ikki gets to prove himself when his beloved Sensei is murdered and Ikki goes to Hollywood to track down his killer, the evil action movie superstar Ansel LaDouche.” Filming starts in L.A. and Korea in September.
