Geeks on trains are sooo hot!

Okay, think of this post as an extremely delayed response to Justin's Kate & Leopold review:
"I think there's an inherent frustration that males develop toward romance flicks, and it often manifests itself with smack talk, put downs and police actions in southern Asia. It's simply this: we hate, hate being compared to point-perfect men onscreen."..."We just… we just can't compete. Pack it in, boys: we're just nerdy, geeky, lumpy folk who often need several clues punctuated by baseball bat blows to get the point from women."

Well for Valentine’s Day I’d like to suggest a cult romance movie: Train Man (Densha Otoko). It’s a 2005 Japanese film that was released in North America last year.

The movie is about a painfully introverted Akihabara geek who, in his first ever act of heroism, saves some women on a train from a drunk. He connects with one of them, and, having no experience with the opposite sex, turns to a message board for advice. Here’s the thing: It’s based on a true story. You can read English translations of the “Train Man” 2channel posts here. The story has become very popular in its native Japan inspiring a TV show, this movie, and four –FOUR- comic book series.

And while we’re talking about not exactly your usual leading man types on trains in romantic movies…
John Hannah, as the Monty Python quoting James (yet he, erm, doesn't do it here), in Sliding Doors:
