Prequels, Sequels & Remakes

The Spiderwick Chronicles, which opens February 14, will have the first teaser for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

A fourth Pirates of the Carribean movie looks like it’s on the way. This time the movie will focus on Captains Jack Sparrow and Barbossa.

Corey Haim is back in for The Lost Boys 2, and will be doing reshoots for the already completed film this month.

Stallone has signed a deal to direct and star in Rocky 7 and Rambo 5. He says about Rambo 5, "It will depend on the success of this one, but right now I think I'm gearing one up. It will be quite different. We'll do something a little darker and a little more unexpected."

Terminator 4 director McG says that “There will be a suggestion of the liquid metal development and a suggestion of the T-800 development.” Also that Josh Brolin is in talks to be the next Terminator.

Robert Englund has said that he will NOT be back for the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

The disaster for the 3-D fourth Final Destination film will be a race-car flying into the stands.

Dennis Iliadis has cast Garret Dillahunt, Rhys Coiro, Martha MacIsaac, and Riki Lindhome for the remake of Wes Craven’s 1972 The Last House on the Left. According to Variety, the story "revolves around a couple, on vacation at their lake shore house, who inadvertently gives shelter to the sociopaths who have just assaulted and nearly killed their daughter. After discovering the truth, they exact revenge on the attackers." Filming starts March in South Africa.

As a reimagining/sequel to the original 1973 The Wicker Man, Cowboys for Christ is about Texas Christians who go to Scotland as missionaries to the May-Polers. Joan Collins and Christopher Lee have been cast. Director Robin Hardy says he’ll also be making a third Wicker Man movie – a comedy.

Alexandra Aja is directing, and co-writing with Josh Stolberg, a 3-D remake of Piranha. The story: A tremor releases prehistoric piranha from the bottom of Lake Havasu.

RKO has opened a new division named Roseblood that’s dedicated to remaking eight of Val Lewton’s classic movies: Lady Scarface, While the City Sleeps, The Monkey’s Paw, The Seventh Victim, Bedlam, Body Snatcher, Five Came Back, and I Walked With a Zombie. The idea is to update the movies for today’s audiences, each with a less than $10 million budget. (I say boo and hiss!)

Peter Hyams is directing the remake of 1956 film Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. The movie’ll start filming in March with Michael Douglas, Amber Tamblyn, and Jesse Metcalfe. The story is about a journalist who sets himself up as a murder suspect in order to expose a corrupt DA.

Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights will be remade for the fifty millionth time (give or take), with John Maybury as director and Kiera Knightley playing Catherine.

Mortal Kombat director mink has said that the movie will be a “re-envisioning”, is still in the financing/business stages, and that no one has been cast yet.

There’s been some maybe sorta forward movement on a Venom spin-off movie.

Rob Zombie is “in talks” to do a Conan remake.
