In France...


March 15 and 17, Paris' Center for International Studies and Research (Centre d'Etudes et Recherches Internationales or CERI), a unit of SciencesPo University, will host a conference on manga (link is French).

The itinerary is as follows:

Day 1:
Morning: The history of shojo manga. Themes of love between men in shojo. Manga titles: Hana Yori Dango, Great Teacher Onizuka, and Gunslinger Girl.
Then a session on the otaku phenomenon.

Day 2:
Manga as an agent of globalization.
Studies on the reception of Japanese comics in European countries.
A look at manga art style and translation.
A panel discussion on the European manga industry with representatives of publishers Editions Tonkam and Pika Édition.

Speakers include Matt Thorn, Jaqueline Berndt, and Go Ito.
