Prequels, Sequels & Remakes

The first teaser trailer for The Incredible Hulk will debut simultaneously on MTV, MTVU, MTV2, VH1, Spike TV, Nick at Nite, and CMT Wednesday, March 12, at 9:56 pm EDT/6:56 pm PDT.

Platinum Dunes and Paramount are in talks over remaking Rosemary’s Baby, which Roman Polanski made in 1968, and producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are looking for writers now. Based off the Ira Levin novel, it’s about a young couple who move into a Manhattan brownstone who's tennants may have a sinister side. (Because back in the late ‘60s/’70s, brownstones in the five Burrows were the original Hellmouths)

Feast writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan will be writing Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s Hellraiser remake. They are looking at a spring start date.

Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter will be in the Dennis Iliadis directed Last House on the Left remake. Filming stars in South Africa later this month.

Brian Garfield, author of the novel Death Wish, gave his opinion on Stallone doing a remake during an interview: “I’m curious to see what Stallone will do with it. I have no idea whether it’ll be successful at the box-office, but I have a feeling it’ll be a better film than the original was. The original Death Wish movie had enormous impact on people, but if you look at it as cinema, it’s woeful.”

Diane English will be remaking George Cukor’s 1939 comedy/drama The Women, with a projected theater date of October 2008. The cast includes Bette Midler, Meg Ryan, and Annette Bening.

Ciaran Hinds and Alexander Ludwig have joined Dwayne Johnson and AnnaSophia Robb in Andy Fickman’s Escape from Witch Mountain remake, now going by the name of Race to Witch Mountain. It’s about two siblings who with paranormal powers run from a diabolical group (is there any other kind?) with the help of a cab driver. Shooting starts this month.

Director David Gordon Green has written, and hopes to direct, the Suspiria remake,"Suspiria is a classic for me. I want to be scared. I want to be afraid...It's an opportunity to take all artistic excellence and be inspired by what was a low budget Italian '70s gore movie, where the art world meets the violent and supernatural."

Because Wolverine has changed its shooting schedule Kodi Smit-McPhee, who was going to play young Logan, has had to drop out to film in The Road, and will be replaced by Troy Mellet.

Citing unpredictable weather, Quantum of Solace will no longer be filming in Cusco, Peru.

Depending on the success of The Mummy : Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, there may be a spin-off for Luke Ford and his character Alex O’Connell (the grating son in The Mummy Returns, then played by Freddie Boath).

2004’s Miss Israel, Gal Gadot, has joined the cast for The Fast and the Furious 4. Also, Michelle Rodriguez will return as Letty, who may or may not be dead in the movie.

Disney is planning a 3-D Tron sequel for 2011 that will, reportedly, be directed by Joseph Kosinski. This would put it the same year as sequels Cars 2, National Treasure 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

Writer William Monahgan and Leonardo DiCaprio are looking at South Korea’s The Chaser, a loosely based on real life serial killer movie, for a remake.
