Prequels, Sequels & Remakes

It looks like Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is heading for a remake/reboot. "Bill & Ted are two Year 10 students, on the verge of failing their school year (the principal, Principal Baumheiser, is their main adversary), when they discover a way to travel through time – yes, it’s by way of a phone again, albeit a funkier one than that in the original – to meet some of the characters they’re supposed to have learnt about at school. They met Gandhi, Calamity Jane… the list goes on. The next week, Bill & Ted have to present a 'full presentation of every class' they’re failing, which is all of them." And the Wyld Stallions will become Atomic Gorillas.

Dimension has acquired the rights to remake 1986’s Short Circuit. S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock who wrote the original movie and its sequel have signed on. Producer David Foster said that “the film will be similar in theme to the original, but it will factor in advances in technology.”

Stuntman and actor Derek Mears will play the man behind the mask in The Friday the 13th remake. Now considering Jason Vorhees wasn't actually in the first one, it seems to be more of a reboot than a remake. Also cast, Amanda Righetti.

Jason Segel and Nick Stoller say that the Muppet sequel is one of two movies they're considering doing next (the other is romantic comedy The Five Year Engagement). It seems the idea for the story of the movie is "old fashion" with "the familiar Muppet characters putting on a show to save an old theater (the theater from The Muppet Show?). The danger? An evil character wants to tear the place down to get at the oil underneath."

Paramount has announced Without a Paddle 2. The direct to DVD sequel won't have any characters from the first. "It fixes on a character named Zach, who promises an old dying woman that he’ll track down her long-lost granddaughter so they can unite before the woman fades away. He, and two others (Nigel and Ben) head off in search of the lost girl – and get up to all-the-expected hijinks along the way".

IESB has a look at some script pages for Final Destination 4.

USA Today has an interview with Daniel Craig on the set of Quantum of Solace.

Simon Pegg says that, if Star Trek XI does well, he’s signed on to play Scotty for two more movies.

Kevin Spacey is signed on for Superman Returns' sequel, "I believe they are in talks at the moment. I have actually already signed up to do it. So if they decide to go ahead with it and they still want me, then I will definitely be in it."

Joshua Jackson, who was once attached to a Fletch movie, says now he isn’t. "In the way that rights are assigned in this business, when it didn’t happen last summer, I think the rights went back to [a] different person. So the guy that offered me the job, I don’t think owns it anymore, which is unfortunate."
