I would highly recommend checking out Le Chevalier d'Eon, which is a pretty awesome historical Gothic horror piece. Most noteable are the fencing sequences (the title character is an 18th Century French transvestite spy, of course there's fencing). These do not resort to the traditional cheap animation tricks you see with shows like Slayers. All the fights are fully animated, do not use speed lines, and keep backgrounds intact. There are also zombies.

I really like Le Chevalier d'Eon, it's a pretty creative show. History + Liquid mercury zombies + Solid characters = Awesome!

But technically he's not a transvestite, so much as possessed by the vengeful spirit of his dead (twin?) sister. I'm halfway through and he's only worn a dress twice, both times reluctantly.
