Touchstone announced that scifi FPS video game Turok is now available in North America for Windows based PCs. "The PC version, which enables either a mouse and keyboard or a game controller, has a suggested retail price of $49.99. The recently released downloadable Velociraptor Pack, featuring five new multiplayer maps for the console versions, will be available for Windows-based PC soon."

IDW will be publishing a Galaxy Quest comic book miniseries, Galaxy Quest: Global Warning. Written by Scott Lobdell and illustrated by Ilias Kyriazis, the story takes place twenty years after the show was on and a re-launch called Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues is about to air. On the eve of the premiere a world threatening crisis ™ happens, and it's up to the crew of cast to do something about it. Lobdell: "Let's face it. Is there anyone who saw Galaxy Quest that didn't come away wondering about the continuing adventures of Jason, Sir Alex, Gwen, Tommy, Guy and Fred and Jane? We've pined away for a sequel long enough! Now we're going to learn what became of these actors after their first greatest adventure together. Yes, they are excited about the re-launch of the franchise that made them cult icons, but don't think for a moment that success has quelled their quirkiness. And when they have to suit up again, and take the Protector out of orbit...? Let's just say experience isn't going to make their jobs any easier!" The first issue debuts this August.
ComiPress' manga information site has posted an authorized partial English translation of Takeo Udagawa's 1997 book Manga Zombie, about underground manga artists, along with interviews with Udagawa and translator John Gallagher. In it, they say they hope that a publisher would be interested in printing a full English translation.

Harry Potter: The Exhibition

Tranformers 2 needs airmen and wants to use members of the Airforce.
There will be two teams: Shanghai and Forest. "Projected dates for the Shanghai Team are June 2-4 and July 22-25. Projected dates for the Forrest Team are June 16-17, June 23, Aug. 22 and Sept. 15-16. Volunteers must be available for all the dates the team is scheduled to shoot.
"Military volunteers must take leave, fill out an off-duty employment form and provide two head-and-shoulders photos of front and side views, according to Senior Master Sgt. Vincent Aragona, an Air Force liaison for the movie. Additionally, volunteers need to be familiar with weapons and ground combat operations."
Airmen who live outside the Los Angeles area will have to provide for their own travel and lodging to Southern California. Travel, meals, and lodging on movie sites outside of L.A. covered by the production company after shooting starts.

24's executive producer Manny Coto says the two hour TV movie this fall, that takes place between "Day 6" and "Day 7," will take Jack Bauer to Africa and "lead directly into the events of Season Seven. He's a soul in turmoil and has been moving from place to place trying to find somewhere he can be at peace. But he winds up in Africa in the middle of a military coup." While there he's subpoenaed to appear before a Senate hearing. "He's not running away from anything. It's because they've taken everything from him, but he won't let them take his freedom."
David James Elliott and Natasha Henstridge will star in four hour disaster miniseries Impact. An astrophysicist and an astronomer discover the moon is on a collision course with earth after a dwarf star knocks it out of orbit. Resulting anomalies include: cell phone interruption, exaggerated tides, and sporadic weightlessness. Written by Michael Vickerman, and filming this month in Victoria, B.C.
The run down on who’s been cast in 90210 so far: Jessica Walter, Cindy Mills, Annie Mills, Dustin Milligan, AnnaLynne McCord, and Kelly Taylor.
Allison Miller will play Michelle Benjamin in NBC's Kings.

Paramount says that Iron man will release 4 hours earlier in select U.S. cities. Details to follow.

James Caan has walked off David O. Russell's political comedy Nailed... over irreconcilable cookie differences. On the first of Caan's two day shoot as a U.S. speaker of the house who chokes to death on a cookie, Russell wanted him to cough while choking. Caan argued [E: quite rightly] that the character couldn't cough and choke to death at the same time. Russell suggested to shoot it both ways, but Caan didn't think his version would get a fair shake and left. Caan's part will be recast.
Steven Soderbergh’s crime thriller The Informant has cast Thomas F. Wilson, Eddie Jemison, Mike O’Malley, and Andrew Daly.
Virginia Madsen will play Dorothy Binney in Mira Nair's Amelia.
Jordan McDeere, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Rebecca Hall, and Catherine Keener have been cast for writer/director Nicole Holofcener's untitled drama, "a tale of family, death and real estate." It'll shoot in New York starting May and hopes to wrap before the possible SAG strike.
Russell Brand and Jonah Hill have been cast in Get Him to the Greek, to be written and directed by Nick Stoller. "A fresh-out-of-college insurance adjuster who is hired to accompany an out-of-control rock star from London to a gig at L.A.'s Greek Theater."

Jesse Plemmons, Anna Faris, Michael Pena, and Ray Liotta have joined Seth Rogen in Jody Hill's comedy Observe and Report.

Prequels, Sequels & Remakes
Guillermo del Toro has finally signed on for The Hobbit movie and a sequel, with Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis, red tape pending, reprising their Rings roles. The sequel will cover the 60 year gap between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He’ll shoot them back to back, moving to New Zealand for four to work with Peter Jackson, Wingnut, and Weta. del Toro will finish his current projects, and there’s no scripts or production dates yet. New Line will oversee development, with Warner Brothers distributing domestically and MGM internationally. TheOneRing.net has an interview with the director.
Moon Bloodgood will play the female lead, a hardened member of the resistance, in Terminator 4. Also, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on appearing: "I've never had a dialogue with anyone about it. But if they shoot the movie in California, I would (be a part of it), yes."

Another remake of a horror film. *sigh* This time Fox is going back to Brian De Palma’s 1978 adaptation of John Farris’ novel The Fury. Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman will write the “contemporary reimagining” about a young man taken by the government so they can exploit his kinetic abilities. The Amy Irving role in the original will be changed to that of a young man.
Nana Visitor will play Mrs. Voorhees in the Friday the 13th, Ryan Hansen has also been cast in the remake.
A couple of years ago Quentin Tarantino talked about two companion anime films to Kill Bill, one for The Bride and one for Bill. According to Uma Thurman, "Right now [Tarantino]'s putting the two films together with an intermission with an added anime sequence he had already written. So additional stories are in there, in animation.”
Doug Jones says that any Silver Surfer movie is still a rumor right now. "As it stands with a franchise-type character like that, I did sign a three-picture deal, so I have two more pictures where they have the option to use me, and I hope they do. I've heard the same rumors about J. Michael Straczynski writing a script, and I hope that's true. Let's hope we see the Silver Surfer in his own movie real soon."
Chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures Thomas Tull "hopes to invoke more of the image of 'an angry god'" with the next Superman movie.
Guillermo del Toro says, that depending on how the second one does, he’d like to make a third Hellboy movie, but he, “would really make sure that we at least sign a contract that there is no more. No prequels and no sequels: nothing. If that happens, then there is a third one we have planned, and the seeds are planted in this film."
Adaptations
After falling through in 2001, Frank Miller’s comic Hard Boiled is being looked at for a possible movie again, and Frank Miller wants to be the one to direct, “We’re talking about [it]. I’ve got a really unusual way I want to do it.”
Joel Silver says that he’s still developing a Wonder Woman movie and even has Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland writing a new script. Silver says it’ll focus more on her background and Paradise Island than be an origin or genesis story.
Wolfgang Peterson has walked off the Ender’s Game movie. Chartoff Productions is looking at potential replacements.
Ang Lee will direct and James Schamus will adapt for Taking Woodstock, based off Elliot Tiber’s Taking Woodstock: A True Story of a Riot, a Concert, and a Life. About “a Greenwich Village-based interior designer and part-time Catskills hotel manager who headed the Bethel, N.Y., Chamber of Commerce. He issued the permit for the legendary 1969 concert on his neighbor Max Yasgur's farm.”
The rights to 1973 chart topper Bad, Bad Leroy Brown has been picked up by producer Warren Zide, with hopes of an action/comedy franchise.

Behold the dangerous fruit of asking questions like 'what’s your favorite guilty pleasure?'. In my opinion everyone should see Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam at least once in their lives. I mean I could tell you what it’s about, but it doesn’t really matter, it’s just a crazy and unusual Jim Varney movie (it has some rather dark comedy compared to, say, the Ernest movies).

Canadian made show Evil Dead: The Musical didn’t do so well Off Broadway, but Koreans are lurving it. Its run at Chungmu Art Hall Theater in South Korea, where it’s been playing since March 19 and will continue through June 14, has been packed. But that’s not all, representatives of the Japanese market are in negotiations, and a German production will start later this year. Meanwhile, back in the motherland, the Toronto show that opened February 14 will be held over into the summer.

The Jim Henson Company and BOOM! Studios have made a deal for a new series of comic books based on Farscape. Brian Henson: "It’s so exciting to work with BOOM! Studios on this project knowing that their team members are true fans of the show. Working with one of our favorite comic publishers, we know our loyal supporters will enjoy these original adventures while new audiences will have a fantastic introduction to the Farscape universe." There will be several four issue "mini-series," that will later be collected into a graphic novel format. The first installment should be out later this year. Also, word is that the comics will "take advantage of the upcoming webisodes" for SciFi.com.
Marvel Entertainment and Del Rey Manga have announced the creative team for a manga based on X-Men character Wolverine. Written by Antony Johnston, and illustrated by Wilson Tortosa, it'll chronicle his history. "Logan, a rebellious teen training in a remote school in the Canadian wilderness, has no memory of his life prior to being found in the forest near the school. But that forgotten life is about to come after him with a vengeance in this shonen [boys] thriller." associate publisher of Del Rey Manga, Dallas Middaugh said, “We couldn’t have picked a better team for this project. Antony has completely reimagined Wolverine, and has given him a gripping new back story. Wilson’s art is dynamic and very much in the style of shonen manga. This is going to be a great book!”
This is the first of two series collaborations between the companies. The other is one on the X-Men team which will be done in a shojo [girls] style, written by Raina Telgemeier and Dave Roman, and illustrated by Anzu.
Both are scheduled for Spring 2009.

Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane will be turned into a five issue comic for Dark Horse. Scott Allie will adapt, with pencils by Mario Guevera, inks by Dave Stewart, and covers by John Cassaday. "Kane is a 16th Century puritan, who travels from Europe to Africa, righting the wrongs of evil-doers after leaving the British military - a sombre, lone avenger, who dons a wide-brimmed, black hat..." Marvel will publish a comic series based on Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game books. The first installment will adapted by Chris Yost, illustrated by Pasqual Ferry, and overseen by Card. It'll come out this fall. "Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are my most popular novels, and for many years I've withheld them from adaptation until the conditions were exactly right. I've worked with Marvel for several years now, beginning with the Ultimate Iron Man series, and I trust them to do superb work. They understand the stories; they know how to translate them into graphic-novel form; and nobody has higher standards of professionalism. In short, now is the time, and Marvel is the publisher to bring Ender and Bean to life in the visual media." This comes after Tor Books announced Ender in Exile, direct sequel to Ender's Game, for late 2008.
Marvel will bring stateside French comic book series Universal War One, by Denis Bajram: "In the midst of a latent civil war between the core planets and outlying planetary settlements, an immense wall has cut our solar system in two. The black wall absorbs all light and matter, and it's up to a band of soldiers facing courts martial to investigate the phenomenon. They're the men and women of the Purgatory Squadron. So, finally if no surprise, Fox has officially picked up a second season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - 13 episodes, with staffing already underway. Fox is looking into developing possible companion series as well.
Amy Acker (Fred on other Joss Whedon show Angel) has joined Dollhouse to play a doctor.
NBC Universal has the domestic rights for upcoming web series Gemini Division and Woke Up Dead. They'll be distributed on mobile, broadband, and TV:
Gemini Division, a science fiction starring Rosario Dawson, is about a New York police officer who uncovers a global conspiracy with simulated life forms assimilating into the population. They're looking at a late summer launch.
Woke Up Dead is a zombie comedy about a USC student who suspects he might be dead when he wakes up underwater in the tube.

Movie News
Rainmaker Entertainment, Brighton Partners, and POW! Entertainment Inc. will partner for Stan "the hardest working octogenarian in show business" Lee's series of animated feature length superhero films, Legion of 5. Other than the fact that they'll have all the usual tie-ins, details are slim.
Okay more specifics on what's going on with Midnight Meat Train: It will go direct to DVD in Canada through Maple Pictures, but Lionsgate is "contractually obligated" for a theatrical release in America. Still no word on when though.
Viz will release Bleach the Movie: Memories of Nobody through NCM Fathom for a theatrical run of June 11-12.
Composer Joel Goldsmith says he's just finished scoring Marko Makilaakso's horror/war/zombie film Stone's War, about a "platoon of American and Finnish soldiers who keep killing the same Nazi-like soldiers."
Shooting on Lars von Trier’s Antichrist starts this summer in Germany. The psychological thriller is about a couple who, after the death of their child, go to a cabin in the woods to recover. Script by von Trier and Anders Thomas Jensen.
Shane Abbess will direct Universal’s science fiction thriller Source Code. Written by Ben Ripley, it’s a “time continuum story.”
Ronald D. Moore has a deal with United Artists to create and write a science fiction trilogy. Past that, details are slim.
Prequels, Sequels & Remakes
United Artists has hired Timothy J. Sexton to write Timecrimes, the American version of Nacho Vigalondo's Spanish film Los Cronocrimenes. The science fiction noir has a man go back in time to prevent a serious crime. Magnolia has the original's U.S. distribution rights.
Scott Stoddard will handle makeup and effects for Friday the 13th, Danielle Panabaker has been added to the cast, and filming starts this week.
Rose McGowan talks about the Barbarella remake. “The original doesn’t have a lot to go on plot-wise. It’s one thing to do a remake of something that could have been much better storywise even if it was fantastic visually. It’s another thing to remake something flawless. That way if yours isn’t that good at least yours is better than that one.”
Ashley Tisdale and United Artists are in talks for her to star in a remake of the 1989’s "Teen Witch."
X-Files 2 now has a name: X-Files: I Want to Believe. This is a reference back to the poster Mulder had in his office on the show. Chris Carter: "It's a natural title. It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. 'I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."
Meagan Good has joined Saw V to play "a city planner who comes from a very wealthy family."
Director Toby Wilkins says that Judd Nelson and William Devane will not be in The Grudge 3.

Adaptations
Director Paul Solet will adapt his short film Grace into a movie of the same name. It's a psychological horror about a woman who finds that her unborn child has come back to life. Leomax Entertainment is producing, and will distribute through its Indigomotion label with Anchor Bay Entertainment.
DreamWorks has the rights to Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's Atlantis Rising comic book for a live action movie. The story is, after seismic disturbances, world militaries investigate the deepest parts of the ocean when an underground civilization wages war on Earth. The final installment of the five part comic is out later this month.
Leiji Matsumoto, creator of Space Pirate Captain Harlock, says that he's "bewildered" over Eight Peaks' April 10 announcement that it had signed with Genome Entertainment to make a live action Harlock movie. "This is premature. I have not given my consent to a movie adaptation." He says he heard about the announcement, but was not directly or formally notified it, and that he did not give his consent. Also that there several offers for film adaptations, but he'd never heard about this one before.
Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks have licensed Masamune Shirow's manga Ghost in the Shell for a 3-D adaptation. Spielberg taking a personal interest in it is what tipped the scales for DreamWorks, " 'Ghost in the Shell' is one of my favorite stories. It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks." Set in the near future, Major Kusanagi and Public Security Section 9, an elite paramilitary group, fight technology related and cyber-based crimes and terrorism, specifically a hacker called The Puppeteer.
Gene Simmons says he shot a cameo as the Demon God of Rock and Roll for Toshio Li's live action adaptation of Kiminori Wakasugi's rock parody manga Detroit Metal City.
Zack Snyder will direct Guardians of Ga'Hoole, the animated feature based on Kathrine Lasky children's book series. Barn Owls live in peace in the Forest of Tyto, until an evil threatens to destroy their home. John Orloff and John Collee scripted, Village Roadshow is making it, and Warner Brothers will distribute. Will be ready by 2009 or 2010.
Shia LaBeouf (The LaBeouf) will star in Neil Burger's science fiction thriller Dark Fields, based on the Alan Glynn novel. "The story centers on a young man who comes into possession of the ultimate smart pill and the events that ensue." Leslie Dixon adapted.
Warner Brothers has the rights to Liz Jensen's upcoming novel The Rapture, about a young girl who can predict natural disasters, a psychologist, and a physicist trying to stop an offshore drilling project the girl says will bring about an apocalyptic earthquake.
Fox Atomic has the film rights to Kathryn Mackel's novel The Surrogate (not connected to the Bruce Willis movie). Rod and Bruce Taylor will adapt the thriller that "revolves around a couple who hire a surrogate to carry their child and find out mid-term that the surrogate is insane."
Casey Affleck will star in The Kind One based off the novel by Tom Epperson, who will also adapt. Set in 1930s Los Angeles, [it] centers on an amnesiac who finds himself working for a mobster -- a killer given the nickname ‘the Kind One’ -- and falling in love with the thug's girlfriend.”
Stephen Tobolowsky has been added to the cast of The Time Travellor’s Wife playing a doctor.
While his name was connected to it in the past, Owen Wilson will not star in The Greatest American Hero.
M. Night Shyamalan will direct and write a live action movie based on cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, taking the ‘Avatar’ out of the title to avoid confusion with James Cameron’s movie. The story is about a young hero who can manipulate the elements and stop a ruthless nation from destroying three other nations. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have claimed July 2, 2010, as the release date.
Casting
Adrian Brody, Elsa Pataky, and Emmanuelle Seigner have replaced Ray Liotta, Vincent Gallo, and Asia Argento in Dario Argento's Giallo. Filming starts in Torino, Italy, May 12.
After Scarlett Johansem stepped out because the role “skewed younger,” Emma Watson will star in Benjamin Ross’s Napoleon and Betsy. The period drama is about Betsy Balcombe, a young noblewoman who falls in love with Napoleon while he’s in exile on the Isle of St. Helena.
Due to a case of mono, Henry Lee Hopper has been replaced by Max Thierot Wes Craven's 25/8.
Milla Jovovich will star in writer/director Olatunde Osunsanmi's thriller The 4th Kind. "A fact-based thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover-up."
Parker Posey and Demi Moore will star in Mitchell Lichtenstein’s indie drama Happy Tears. It’s bout a woman “who returns to her Wisconsin home and must deal with her bitter sister and her father, who suffers from a rare form of dementia.”
Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson have joined Josh Hartnett revenge flick Bunraku. It'll take inspiration from "puppets, origami, comic books, video games and German expressionism." That's quite a mix. It'll shoot in Europe.
Rinko Kikuchi, Ryo Kase, Chiaki Kuriyama, and Shosuke Tanihara will voice in Mamoru Oshii's alternate history war anime The Sky Crawlers.

Death Note
May 20-21. Viz Pictures announced that it will screen director Shusuke Kaneko's Death Note, the first of two live action movies based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's manga, in over 300 American theaters through NCM Fathom. Showing at 7:30 pm both nights, it will include a 20 minute featurette, and use NCM Fathom's high-def digital presentation system.
Advance tickets will be available April 18-20, to subscribers of Shonen Jump's email newsletter. General purchase tickets start April 21.

Since it went so well, SciFi will live stream the third episode online this Friday at noon.
After Jewel Staite said she went in to record a commentary track for a "special release" of Firefly, TV Shows on DVD came out with this saying it's a Blu-ray version.
After negotiations between producers and ABC, Lost will be extended by a two hour season finale on May 29, at 9 pm ET/PT. The fourth season was shortened from 16 one hour episodes to 13 because of the strike, this will bring it up to 14 hours.
John Carpenter will not be working on NBC's horror anthology Fear Itself. Larry Fessenden will direct the episode Skin & Bones: "Skin & Bones concerns a cattle herder who returns home to his family after being lost in the woods for days. Soon, a terrible mortal struggle ensues against the terrifying monster possessing him."
Fox has green lit Ronald D. Moore's two hour backdoor pilot, Virtuality. The twelve member crew of the starship Phaeton is on a ten year journey exploring a distant solar system. To help them deal with the trip, NASA has installed virtual reality modules that allow them to go anywhere and be anyone. Until a bug is found in the system. Production begins in July.
Stan Lee will be working with Japanese animation studio BONES on an animated series called Hero Man [tentative title]. On the west coast in the U.S., a boy named Joey finds a toy that becomes a giant robot named Hero Man that he can pilot to fight evil. Hitoshi Nanba directs, Shigeto Koyama character designs, and Toshihiro Kawamoto will be chief animator.
David Wyler will be remaking Ben-Hur as a miniseries with Alchemy TV. The rights for $30 million project has already been sold to Spain, Germany, and Canada, with Wyler (whose father, William Wyler, directed the 1959 Oscar winner) negotiating in the states. Christian Duguay will direct this version that will downplay the religious parts of the novel. “We want to look at the spirituality within the piece rather than directly relating it to a specific religion. It’s a very complex story. It’s been 50 years since my father’s version, and we think we can bring something new and contemporary to it in the same way that ‘Gladiator’ did for that genre,” said Wyler. Filming starts this year.
Animated series Speed Racer: The Next Generation will premiere on Nicktoons Friday, May 2, at 7:00 pm (ET) with a 90-minute episode. "In the 90-minute premiere, "The Beginning," Speed, a teenager who had been orphaned as a baby, arrives at the prestigious Racing Academy and tries to get acclimated as the new kid. He meets friends and enemies, finds out he is the son of the famous driver Speed Racer and begins to deal with his new brother, X, and uncle, Headmaster Spritle (voiced by Peter Fernandez, original voice of Speed Racer in the original U.S. version). After finding parts of Speed Racer's car -- the Mach-5 -- in a junk yard, Speed, with help from his new friends Conor and Lucy, rebuilds the legendary vehicle, but wrecks it during an intense race. Dejected and in need of a new car, Speed discovers his father's schematics for a revolutionary gasless engine and builds the Mach 6." 26 half hour episodes will air at 7 pm on Fridays.

Thomas Schlamme will direct and exec produce Tom Wheeler's Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas pilot for ABC. It's about a girl who finds a magical atlas that reveals a secret world.
Jeff Pinker will be executive producer and show runner on J.J. Abrams' Fringe.

Myriad Pictures/The Weinstein Company has announced the theater dates for the limited run of Dario Argento’s Mother of Tears, starting on June 6. Fangoria has more dates and locations.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is looking at an August theatrical release.
Anchor Bay Entertainment has picked up for DVD distribution indie horror movies Breathing Room, directed by John Suits, and Five Across the Eyes, directed by Greg Swinson and Ryan Thiessen.
Midnight Meat Train will be going straight to DVD after all.
Ernie Cline's spec script Thundercade has been bought by Lakeshore Entertainment. The comedy is about three friends who go on a journey to the world's ultimate gaming championship when one of them, a video game junkie, goes through a midlife crisis after someone has broken his record.
Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese's "scifi epic" pitch Earth vs. Moon has been bought by Universal. Plot unknown.
Columbia Pictures has Chris Bertolini's spec script Battle: Los Angeles. An alien invasion starts in Santa Monica, California, and spreads to LA.
And Ben Wexler's spec script Bobism has been bought by MGM . "A shy collegian who discovers that life in 1,000 years will be based on his blog."
The Avi Arad produced live action/CGI Robosapien: Rebooted has begun filming in New Orleans. Based on the Wowwee toy, a boy befriends a robot on the run from "malevolent corporate interests." Stars Bobby Coleman, Penelope Anne Miller, Kim Coates, David Eigenberg, Holliston Coleman, and Joaquim de Almeida.
Lindsay Lohan has the lead in, writer-director, Matthew Bright's Manson's Girls. "'Manson's Girls' tells the monstrous story of Charles Manson through the eyes of Lohan's character — Nancy Pitman, one of the cult fiend's former girlfriends who remained a fierce disciple throughout his bloody reign. It's unclear to what extent she may have participated in the killings that he inspired, but, after Manson was arrested, she passed out pamphlets, hoisted placards and sang in public of her undying support." Filming starts July 21.
Joshua Leonard's independently financed Spectacular Regret, is an interconnected stories drama set in Los Angeles. Danny Houston, John Ortiz, and Kelly Garner will star, with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson still negotiating. Shoots in July.
Musician Akiko Yano is the first announced cast member of Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. She'll play one of Ponyo's sisters.
Prequels, Sequels & Remakes
Cowboys for Christ, the sequel/remake to the 1973 The Wicker Man based on a script by Robin Hardy, has been shut down due to lack of finances.
Add Danielle Panabaker, Jared Padalecki, Odette Yustman, Aaron Yoo, and Travis Van Winkle to the Friday the 13th cast.
Jensen Ackles will play Tom, one of the two males leads, in Patrick Lussier's My Bloody Valentine remake.
The Kirk Jones directed Everybody's Fine, remake of Giuseppe Tornotore's Stanno Tutti Bene, will star Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale, and Sam Rockwell. De Niro plays a widower who decides to take a road trip to reconnect with his grown children when realizes wife was his only connection to them. Filming starts in Conneticut later this month.

The latest on Wolverine: Scott Adkins has been cast as Weapon XI. Marc Guggenheim has been added as a writer.
David Moscow, Agnes Bruckner, Nelson Lee, Brian Klugman, and Gwendoline Yeo will star in Eric Bross directed prequel Vacancy 2. This time "a new bunch of characters – including a bride and groom - book rooms at the motel from hell. Moscow will play George, the male lead."
Ned Beatty will be voicing in Toy Story 3 for an undisclosed role.
Adaptations
Despite earlier rumors, Disney says that Orlando Bloom has not been cast in the Prince of Persia movie.
The film rights to Boom Studio's and writer David DiGilio's comic book series North Wind has been picked up by Davis Entertainment. Set in Los Angeles, survivors of a new ice age live under the ice and a dictator. One of the exiles who have been forced out into the harsh elements leads a revolution. DiGilio will adapt it for the live action feature.
Justin Marks has been hired to write a script based on Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli's Hack/Slash. The comic is about Cassie Hack, her companion Vlad, and their hunting down of slashers (think Freddy, Jason, or Michael). Todd Lincoln is attached to direct.
Korea’s Eight Peaks and Japan’s Genome Entertainment will have joint production on a live action Captain Harlock movie. Based off Leiji Matsumoto’s Space Pirate Captain Harlock, about an honorable rogue space captain and his ship the Arcadia, it has a projected budget of $100 million (US).
After being bought, developed, and then dropped by both Disney and New Line, the rights to Steve Alten's 1997 novel Meg (about a prehistoric 80' 70,000 lb shark, carcharodon megalodon, that comes up from the Mariana Trench to chew on the modern world) has been bought again by Apelles Publishing Inc. of Abington, Va, with Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin producing.
While he's still not officially attached, Guillermo Del Toro talks about the Hobbit.
Sony Screen Gems will make a Hip Hop version of Jane Austen's Emma called Emme. Let me repeat that: A Hip Hop Emma. "The contemporary-set tale, which takes place at an inner-city high school, revolves around a stepbrother and stepsister. The film will include at least 15 song and dance numbers. Tyger Williams penned the screenplay." Gems' Clint Culpepper, who came up with the idea, said, "Now it's urban. This is the way it should be reimagined in the new millennium." That's when my brain exploded and made a mess all over my keyboard.
Natalie Portman is on for a new Wuthering Heights written by Olivia Hetreed and produced by Ecosse Films.
Colin Farrell, Christopher Lee, and Paz Vega will star in Danis Tanovic’s Triage, based off Scott Anderson’s novel. It’s about a photojournalist who comes back from a dangerous assignment, but his colleague and friend doesn’t. The friend’s girlfriend must solve the mystery that's killing her boyfriend.
With this Myspace post, the producers of Babylon AD (which is based on a novel by Maurice G. Dantec) addressed the rumors regarding run time and the rating:
"Babylon AD has never had a 2h40min cut. This rumor came from a joke Mathieu did in front of some journalists last September. Apparently some of them didn't understand it. ... The approximate length of the film is 1h40min, and this is what has been delivered to our partner, FOX. So I can reassure you, FOX is not chopping up the film and cutting 70 [minutes], like I read on Rotten Tomatoes! :-)” “Oh and about the PG13, that was a contractual agreement between Fox and us, so there is no surprise on that end.”

SciFi Channel's Sanctuary will use the same CG tecniques as 300 and Sin City. "In this revolutionary approach to television, 90 percent of the sets are (computer generated,) allowing the writers to create an expansive world untethered from the normal television budget restrictions."
Darren Aronofsky is developing supernatural thriller series Riverview Towers with AMC. It's about a family who's new apartment building has paranormal activity. John J. McLaughlin is writing and Patty Jenkins is in talks to direct the pilot if the project gets that far.
ABC's Castle will be directed by Rob Bowman. The Andrew Marlow written pilot is about a horror novelist who is also a consultant for the NYPD.
Half hour episodes of Batman the Brave and the Bold will premiere on Cartoon Network in 2008:

Michael Green (Heroes) penned the pilot and will executive-produce. I Am Legend helmer Francis Lawrence directed the pilot and will executive-produce the series as well.

Movie News
Stan Lee and Walt Disney Pictures will work together on three projects to be exec produced by Lee's company POW! Entertainment. Based on stories by Lee, Nick Ratchet will be directed by Richard LaGravenese, Blaze is being written by Gary Goldman, and Tigress (not related to the previously announced movie about the Conan the Barbarian villainess) will be written by Zoe Green. Other than that the studio is keeping tight lipped.
Anchor Bay Entertainment has named Sony Pictures Home Entertainment as exclusive distributor for its, and subsidiary Manga Entertainment's, worldwide markets outside North America, Australia, and Great Britain. Anchor Bay hopes to extend its market presence with this partnership.
Walt Disney Pictures, ImageMovers, and writers Michael Dougherty, Breehn Burns, and Simeon Wilkins, will be making Calling All Robots. Using the same performance capture technology as in Beowulf, the story for the animated scifi adventure is unknown, but Dougherty says it will "tell a story that's a throwback to old Godzilla movies. I grew up watching Godzilla movies. This film is very much rooted in those movies."
The distribution rights to writer/director Vincenzo Natali's Splice for North America, Germany, and Spain, has been acquired by Senator Entertainment. Starring Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley, the movie is about a pair of scientists who perform illegal genetic experiments, creating a new species of combined human and animal DNA, and the consequences. Theatrical release 2009.
Henry Lee Hopper, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Meade will star in Wes Craven's 25/8 (tentative title). Unfolding in the course of a day, the horror thriller has seven teenagers being haunted by the serial killer who supposedly died 15 years ago, when they were born.
Shannon Beckner and Oded Fehr will star in Eric Valette's killer car movie Hybrid. Filming started last week, and Voltage Pictures has already acquired the foreign rights.
Jamal Woolard, Angela Bassett, Derek Luke, Anthony Mackie, and Edwin Freeman have been cast Notorious, a biopic about Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace. Having begun filming last month, it should release 2009.
Paramount has bought Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman's comic pitch One Big Happy. While no official word on the story has been given, Steve Martin and Diane Keaton will star.
Michael Jai White, Ving Rhames, and Rosamund Pike have joined Jonathan Mostow's Surogates.
Rogue, Greg McLean's killer croc movie, will have a theatrical release in the "top 10 markets" April 25.
*sigh* Lionsgate will put out yet a another Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer "written" and "directed" "parody" movie called Goodie Two Shoes. This time the general theme will be on movies like Superbad, with a “group of friends who go on a life-changing adventure.” But they will continue on, like with all that other garbage, to "spoof" other stuff too: Hancock, Sex in the City, The Love Guru, etc… These things just bring down my whole day.
